Miami (19. July 2021) Telemundo Deportes, the Spanish-speaking home of the Olympics, will begin coverage of the Tokyo Olympics this Wednesday when soccer competitions begin. Live coverage begins with the U.S. debut in the women’s competition against Sweden from 4 p.m. ET, live on Telemundo. The men’s competition begins Thursday at 4 a.m. ET with Mexico versus France live on Telemundo.

To celebrate the start of the Olympic Games, Telemundo is presenting a special opening essay with renowned Mexican author and motivational speaker Daniel Habif, With his passion and his authentic style at the opening, he will bring the emotions of the Olympic Games, their athletes and their journey to the podium. The opening tease will debut on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET on Telemundo and 10 p.m. on Universo, as part of the El Camino Dorado Special Olympic Preview Show and will again be broadcast as the opening of the coverage on Telemundo and Universo on Saturday. Olympic soccer coverage begins with the US women’s national soccer team, which has won Olympic gold four times (1996, 2004, 2008 and 2012) and Sweden returns to the Olympic field live Meet Telemundo on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET. The USWNT includes 11 players from the 2016 Olympic team including Alex Morgan, Carli Lloyd, Tobin Heath, Megan Rapinoe and more. Telemudo Deportes’ coverage of the women’s soccer competition is also highlighted by Chile’s Olympic debut hitting the UK at 3:30 PM ET on Universo and Brazil, the most successful women’s team in South America to have never missed a women’s Olympic tournament.

Telemundo will broadcast live the entire group stage of the women’s soccer competition with nine games between Telemundo and Universo, supplemented by extended highlights or “compacts” before, between or after the live games to offer viewers full coverage of the competition .

Telemundo Deportes’ coverage of the men’s competition will feature at least 12 live games through the group stage with expanded highlights and compacts of the remaining games to provide full coverage for viewers. Live match coverage is also highlighted by Brazil as it defends gold medal with two-time Olympic champions Argentina and Honduras returning for their fourth straight games. Other teams include Spain, which is returning after missing the 2016 Rio Olympics, Germany and France.

Starting Saturday July 24th, Telemundo Deportes will be providing at least 12 hours of multimedia coverage every day during the Olympics in Tokyo present. The first week’s coverage is highlighted with beach volleyball, volleyball, boxing, softball, basketball, baseball, and highlights for other top sports and Latin American athletes. The Telemundo and Universo Olympic program will also be available via livestream on TelemundoDeportes.com and the Telemundo Deportes App.
